Fungo Voices
Mike McClary | Doug Hill | John Milton
Mike McClary is the founder and primary voice behind The Daily Fungo, a Detroit Tigers blog, and The Detroit Tigers Podcast, the podcast for Tigers fans, by Tigers fans.
A native Detroiter and lifelong Tigers fan, Mike’s first Tigers game was in 1977 when rookie Jack Morris pitched against the Milwaukee Brewers at Tiger Stadium.
The Tigers won the game — barely.Rightfielder Mickey Stanley’s over-the-wall catch with two out in the top of the ninth preserved the victory. And thus Mike was hooked.
Since then he’s been lucky enough to attend a bevy of memorable games at Tiger Stadium:
- Countless Opening Day tilts
- The 1984 ALCS Clincher over Kansas City
- Game 3 of the ‘84 World Series
- All three wins against Toronto to clinch a come-from-behind AL East Division Title
Though he left Michigan in the mid-1990s, Mike has managed to snag tickets to two of the most memorable games in Comerica Park history: the 2005 All Star Game and Game 4 of the 2006 ALCS which ended on Magglio Ordonez’s ninth-inning three-run, pennant-clinching homer. He now follows the Tigers thanks to subscriptions to: DirecTV’s MLB Extra Innings, XM Satellite Radio and MLB Game Day Audio.
Mike is a veteran freelance business writer based in Scottsdale, Ariz., where he lives with his wife, Sheryl, and their two children.

Doug Hill is a 40-year-old elementary school teacher in Rochester Hills, Mich., who has long had a passion for sports. Growing up in rural Decatur, IN, Hill’s
favorite team was Cincinnati’s “Big Red Machine.” Therefore it only seemed natural that less than a year after his family relocated to suburban Detroit that Sparky Anderson would join him. He’s been a Tiger fan ever since!
Next to the 1984 and 1987 pennant chases, Hill can’t recall a better time to be a baseball fan than 2006.
Married to Carol with 10-year-old daughter Helena and nearly 6-year-old son Jake, Hill lives in Macomb Township and looks forward to sharing his wit and wisdom on the Daily Fungo as the 2007 season moves forward.
