Mike McClary is the founder and primary voice behind The Daily Fungo, a Detroit Tigers blog.

A native Detroiter and lifelong Tigers fan, Mike’s first Tigers game was in 1977 when rookie Jack Morris pitched against the Milwaukee Brewers at Tiger Stadium.

The Tigers won the game — barely. Rightfielder Mickey Stanley‘s over-the-wall catch with two out in the top of the ninth preserved the victory. And thus Mike was hooked.

Since then he’s been lucky enough to attend a bevy of memorable games at Tiger Stadium:

  • Countless Opening Day tilts
  • The 1984 ALCS Clincher over Kansas City
  • Game 3 of the ’84 World Series
  • All three wins against Toronto to clinch a come-from-behind AL East Division Title

Though he left Michigan in the mid-1990s, Mike has managed to snag tickets to two of the most memorable games in Comerica Park history: the 2005 All Star Game and Game 4 of the 2006 ALCS which ended on Magglio Ordonez‘s ninth-inning three-run, pennant-clinching homer. He now follows the Tigers thanks to subscriptions to: DirecTV’s MLB Extra Innings, XM Satellite Radio and MLB Game Day Audio.
