Here’s how the Tigers-Yankees-Diamondbacks trade is covered in today’s edition of the Arizona Republic. The story appears above the fold but, not surprisingly, below the Suns-Mavericks game story. Here are some other Phoenix-focused opinions on the deal:
The Republic’s Nick Piecoro (who, by the by, has one of the best team blogs out there): A long, [...]

As the trade-deadline hysteria gains steam, let’s look back on this date in 2002 when the Tigers made another non-blockbuster for three prospects that amounted to bupkis.
Detroit traded righty Brian Moehler and infielder Matt Boone to Cincinnati for infielder David Espinosa and two players to be named. The Reds sent Noochie Varner and Jorge Cordova [...]

Last July 9 I attend a Tigers/Indians game at Comerica Park — the one when the Tigers came back from six runs down to win it in the ninth on a Miguel Cabrera line-drive homer — and found myself utterly transfixed on the father and son duo sitting in front of me.
The dad, possibly [...]

Thanks to a timely ping from Ian Casselberry, we heard about the Tigers curious trade with the Braves this afternoon.
Here’s how Baseball Prospectus 2009 summed up Josh Anderson:
Now 26, he’s still nothing more than a fifth outfielder.
Nice.
Atlanta gets pitching prospect Rudy Darrow.
More to come, but three things come to mind:
Does this mean [...]

I really want to give Dave Dombrowski the benefit of the doubt on this one. I really do. But I am not seeing it.
Matt Joyce is a lefthanded power bat, something the Tigers have needed for a while, who could take over at either of the corner OF spots once Sheffield was gone and either [...]

Well, the Tigers once again barely set the suitcases down in the hotel room before getting down to business. Moving quickly to fill a hole, they acquired catcher Gerald Laird for pitching prospects Guillermo Moscoso and  Carlos Melo.
Laird is a quality catcher who can hit, and he’ll give Dusty Ryan time to grow into the [...]

…the Tigers sent John Smoltz to the Atlanta Braves for Doyle Alexander.
Discuss.

Now this makes sense (from Bill Madden’s column in The New York Daily News):
How could [Yankees' GM Brian Cashman] know the Detroit Tigers’ perennial All-Star and Gold Glove catcher had become disconcerted over the decision of his manager, Jim Leyland, to give an increased percentage of the catching role to Brandon Inge? It seems nobody [...]

Watching ESPN’s report about the Pudge trade to the Yankees. Peter Gammons says:
The Tigers-Pudge relationship “had run its course.”
Jim Leyland told him that the Tigers can’t run Zumaya and Rodney out there every night and the team needed bullpen depth.
The Tigers believe Brandon Inge is ready to take over behind the plate.
“On that stage in [...]
