Happy Birthday, Jeff Robinson

Today is the 47th birthday of Jeff Robinson, a once-promising starting pitcher for the Tigers and one of my favorite short-timers.

Moriarty is the first man to hold baseball’s four principal jobs: player, umpire, scout and manager. Cobb signed with the Philadelphia [...]

Happy 54th birthday to the pride of Bowling Green State University, Kip Young.

Young made his major-league debut on July 21, 1978 against the Angels at Tiger Stadium. He took the loss in the 11-inning game, surrendering two earned runs in the 11th. For the rest of the ‘78 season Young (wearing number 44) was a [...]

Birthday Double Dip

What do Franklin “Cadillac” Stubbs and John “Flash” Flaherty have in common? Not only were they both on the forgettable 1995 Tigers but they share a birthday today.
The now 47-year-old Stubbs hit a robust .250 with two homers and 19 RBI. He played 20 games at first, 20 games in left field and another three [...]
