I am a big fan of Jason Thompson. When I grew as a teenager in the 1980's, I would watch him play on T.V. whenever I got a chance. He was with the Pittsburgh Pirates then. I admired his amazing ability to make his home-run hitting seem effortless. Jason was not only a great player, but a great family man as well(I heard about this from Vin Scully, the Dodger broadcaster). His batting stance, his built, his place of birth(Hollywood), his college in which he first embarked on his baseball career(Cal-State Northridge) all contributed to my becoming obsessed with him back in the early 1980's. He now runs a baseball training center, and I wish him luck in this venture. Long live Jason Thompson!!!

Sparky would run anyone out of town who did not bow down to his way.Another was Howard Johnson who had a few great hitting years with the Mets.

Great article! Thanks. With a few exceptions it read as though I wrote the article( I had many of the same feelings you expressed). I am a little older-okay maybe more than a little as my "childhood" favorite was Al Kaline but I was a huge JT fan and the trade for Al Cowens never did make sense to me. I have been enjoying the trip down memory lane. Keep up the good work.
