The Score: Twins 2 – Tigers 0
The Gist: Justin Verlander was the tough-luck loser on a night when Ryan Raburn‘s lead-gloved defense cost the Tigers dearly. And on a night when Francisco Liriano showed that he might be back in pre-arm-injury form, the Tigers got fewer hits (5) than the Red Wings scored goals. Never a recipe for success.
The Quote: “Thome running around the bases is always entertaining.” — Twins manager Ron Gardenhire on Jim Thome‘s scoring from first after Raburn dropped what would’ve been the final out of the sixth.
The Stat: 7 — Verlander’s season-high in strikeouts — in 5.2 innings Tuesday night.
