- 1963 – The Tigers claim Denny McLain off waivers from the White Sox.
- 2002 – After opening their season with six straight losses, the Tigers fire manager Phil Garner and general manager Randy Smith. The unfortunate Luis Pujols takes over the reins on an interim basis and sleeps through a record 156 games. Dave Dombrowski added the GM’s duties to his president and CEO title.
- 2008 – Placido Polanco‘s MLB record run of 186 consecutive errorless games and 911 consecutive errorless chances at second base ends. He commits a throwing error that allows Manny Ramirez to score on what would have been a triple otherwise.
