Must-See TV: Sheff in the Field on Wednesday

If you have a curiosity about how Gary Sheffield will fare as an outfielder with the Mets, you’ll have to wait until Wednesday to see Sheff patrolling right at Citi Field, so says ESPN.com’s Rumor Central [$]:

For the second time this week, coaches hit fly balls to Sheffield in the early afternoon to get him acclimated, after he served as DH with Detroit. Sheffield has suggested a pinch-hitting role would be acceptable, but Manuel reiterated that performance would dictate who starts in right field and noted that players need semi-regular starts anyway in order to remain sharp for pinch-hitting duty.
