I too was a big Ernie Harwell fan, but there was always something special about watching the Tigers on TV with George and Al. I miss hearing him say (as I read in the paper today), "...there gonna wave em in..." The passion and excitement with which he spoke those words still ring in my ears today. I tried to find a video or audio clip on the web to no avail. He always seemed to me to be the genuine article.

George Kell was the best. I remember a series in Texas in 1984 when I got a chance to catch the Tigers during that special year. In the old Rangers ballpark after the TV announcers interviewed the players on the field they (being George Kell and Al Kaline)had to walk up through the stands to get to the broadcast booth. All the fans wanted Kaline's autograph but almost none of the Dallas fans knew who George Kell was so nobody bothered him at all. But George stuck by Kaline's side quietly waiting while Al signed and signed and signed. Always a Gentleman.

Did Mike mean the podcast originally aired on March 14, 2007 or was it March 14,2009. I think there was a typo but I wasn't sure. Anyway, Rest in Peace George, you'll be missed.
