The extension was really stupid. You have to be careful signing pitchers to multiple year contracts, even a 2 year deal would have been dumb. The smart thing to do would have been to simply wait and see how Willis performed in '08, and then extend his contract. If that would have happened, we wouldn't have to worry about this mess now. Its almost as if Dombrowski wanted to sign him right away so Willis wouldn't want to go elsewhere in '09. Anyway, that was a bad move. Dombrowski will be very careful from now on, or else he'll be gone. The same thing with Leyland. That would be a shame too, Leyland and Dombrowski do have talent and baseball smarts-or do they?
