Here’s a Question for You

This season has been a monumental bummer. But what was more embarrassing for you:

  • Watching a talented team — constructed for a World Series run — crater under injuries, expectations and overall terrible play?

Or…

  • Enduring the 2003 team that no one expected to be good but didn’t expect it to be a regular bit on Leno?

My vote’s with this year.

Agreed. This season has been more painful on pretty much every level.

I didn’t think 2003 was all that painful. It was no worse than the decade of bad play before it. In fact, I thought of it as a new beginning.

This year was a disaster. I was not sure whether they had enough pitching to go all the way but I was confident it would be an entertaining team and one that would be in the race all season long. They provided very little entertainment this season. It was the most disappointing team since at least 1985-1986.

i agree with this years team. After 10 days in Lakeland, who would have thought this could happen. Good thing…..less people in Lakeland next spring!

If the question is which is more embarrassing, hands down it was the ’03 team. That was one of the worse teams in history and had no business being on a major league field. This season has been painful and disappointing (with the way they have been playing, or not playing, this month the final kick in the teeth). But I was embarrassed 5 years ago to see a charter franchise in the American League with a 103 year tradition in such a state. That season was the worst!

To quote/paraphrase Ford Frick nominee Jim Price:

This season “no question” was worse. The “late movement” this year has had plenty of “down” to it — down to the cellar. With so many “hitting machines” and a “human vacuum cleaner” in Brandon Inge on the roster it’s amazing how poorly they’ve played. There were plenty of “at’em balls” hit, but in the end not enough to amount to anything.

I suggest the entire team visit Lakeland extra early this spring as I hear it’s a “nice area.”
