Game 101: Sweaty Sweep
By Mike McClary in Featured,Game Recaps | 0 comments

The Score: Tigers 7 – Royals 1
The Gist: Armando Galarraga was nearly perfect — and for six innings he was. In his seven innings pitched he fanned seven and didn’t allow a baserunner until yielding three singles and a walk in the seventh, but he was downright dominant in raising his record to 8-4. Placido Polanco and Magglio Ordonez each had three hits, and Miguel Cabrera knocked in another three runs.
The Quote: “I thought about it, because you want to throw perfect, but you just focus in and aim for the corners all the time.” — Galarraga.
The Stat: 89. The average first-pitch temperature over the three games at Kauffman Stadium. If you’ve ever been to Missouri during the summer, you know all-too-well that 89 degrees feels more like 110. Gross.
