The Score: Giants 8 - Tigers 6
The Gist: Things were tight but seemingly in control at AT&T Park on Monday night and then Jim Leyland called for Fernando Rodney. Fresh of the DL, Rodney surrendered a three-run jack to the Giants’ John Bowker and that’s all it took to wipe-out Justin Verlander’s terrific start: 6 IP, five hits, two earned runs and seven strikeouts. Marcus Thames continues to play Home Run Derby, hitting two off Tim Lincecum — whose ERA skyrocketed to 2.21 after giving up four earned runs.
The Quote: “All seven? Shoot, I don’t feel so bad anymore.” — Lincecum, when told that Thames’ past seven hits were home runs.
The Stat: 81. Rodney’s ERA after his one-third of an inning. Actually, it’s 81.01.
Up Next: Tigers @ Giants
Kenny Rogers (4-4, 4.63) vs. LHP Jonathan Sanchez (6-3, 4.26)
