Wednesday Walewanders

  • If any day of the week has been good to the Tigers this year, it’s Wednesday. The boys have a 6-2 record on Hump Day. Still winless on Sunday though.

  • Today is Kirk Gibson’s 51st birthday. Have you seen the man lately? I hope I look that good when I’m 41 much less 51.

  • I’ve always wondered why the Tigers go from Anaheim to Seattle and back down to Oakland. Happens almost every year.

  • If you haven’t added ShysterBall to your daily reading circuit do it now. Here’s a taste of what Craig brings your way each day in his MLB game recaps, this from last week:
Tigers 9, Mariners 2: My great aunt lived a long happy life, but towards the end it was pretty nuts. She’d fade, be given last rites, rebound, seem to turn a corner, suffer another setback, rebound again, etc. etc. She messed with us like that for almost two years before she ultimately went along on her merry way. Thankfully Tigers fans will only have to put up with it for about four more months.

    File under “Truth Hurts”.

  • Where were you on May 28, 1995? If you were at Tiger Stadium, you witnessed the Chicago White Sox (five) and Detroit Tigers (seven) combine to set a major-league record 12 home runs, with Chicago winning 14-12.

  • Something about this just doesn’t add up. From the Tigers Game Notes from Tuesday:
The Tigers are hitting .394 (28×71) with runners in scoring position over the last seven games after batting .205 (26×127) with runners in scoring position during the first 16 games in May.

    Something doesn’t seem right there.
