For your consideration…
- On the Fox Game of the Week pre-game show for the Diamondbacks/Braves game, Kevin Kennedy said he was not ready to change his prediction that the Tigers will win the A.L. Central.
- Happy 57th Birthday to cup-of-coffee Tigers infielder and Central Michigan alum Dave Machemer. The St. Joseph native played in 19 games for the 1979 Tigers and batted .192 in 26 at bats (five hits, one double, two RBI). After his year in Detroit (wearing number 9), Machemer played in the Twins organization and then went on to manage in the minors from 1985 through 2007.
According to Baseball-Reference.com, on June 21, 1978, as a member of the Angels, Machemer homered in his first big-league at bat (off Geoff Zahn) during a 5-2 win over the Minnesota Twins. He never hit another.
- Also from Baseball Reference, on this date in 1984 - Jack Morris led the Tigers to their 17th straight road win, setting an American League record. Morris allowed four hits and Detroit beat the California Angels 5-1.
Enjoy the triple-header of Detroit sports tonight.
