The Gist: Kenny Rogers allowed two runs on five hit in six innings of work. Edgar Renteria collected all three of Detroit’s hits in the loss. Royals starter Brian Bannister gave up two singles in seven innings.
The Quote: Jim Leyland in the Freep: “I’m not going to get excited after two games about hitting. … If this club doesn’t hit, we might as well all go home.”
The Stat: Renteria was 3-for-4. The rest of the team? 0-for-25.
