Wednesday Walewanders

- Gobs of Tigers (and ex-Tigers) birthdays today starting with Eulogio De La Cruz (24), Zach Miner (26), Craig Dingman (34), Ruppert Jones (53) and Larry Rothschild (54).
- While the bullpen has received most of the attention this spring, and not for good reasons, the rotation has been rock solid. Through the Tigers’ first 16 games of Grapefruit League action, the starting pitchers have combined to compile a 5-0 record, a 2.32 ERA, 30 strikeouts, 37 hits and 12 walks. Keep it going, boys.
- Cruising MLB rosters for former Tigers and so far only one, the aforementioned De La Cruz, has been sent down. I got to wondering about Omar Infante and had to dig deep into the Braves archive to find this nugget from Jan. 18:
Infante, who was hit by a pitch in a Venezuelan winter-league game on January 12, had a pin placed in the hand and will be re-evaluated in two weeks. Following his next evaluation, Infante is expected to wear a cast for four-to-six weeks and will most likely be ready to resume baseball activities in mid-March.
That’s about now.
My man Craig Monroe is putting together a decent spring over in Twins camp. As of this writing, he’s batting .375 with a .750 SLG. Oh, but it won’t be long before Twins fans discover the madness that is C-Mo.
As for the players sent to the Marlins:
- Cameron Maybin – .278, 0 HR, 2 RBI
- Mike Rabelo – .286, 0 HR, 2 RBI
- Andrew Miller – 13 IP, 10 H, 5 R/ER, 10 BB, 6 K, 3.46 ERA (Here’s a story on Miller’s most recent start.)
- Dallas Trahern – 3.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R/ER, 5 BB, 1 HBP, 12.27 ERA
- De La Cruz – 3 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 HR, 15.00 ERA
- Burke Badenhop – 6 IP, 1 H, 0.00 ERA, 4 BB, 2 K, 1 SV
- Heard of a new Tigers blog this week: www.TigerGeist.com published by transplanted Detroiter John Brunn. Check it out.
