Sunday Scattershots

- The well-traveled Gabe Kapler attempts a comeback with the Brewers [$]. I’ll be attending a Brewers Spring Training game later this month. Perhaps old #18 will be on the field.
- I had the pleasure today of interviewing former Tiger Johnny Grubb for a writing project I’m involved in. As I was doing my research for our talk, I stumbled on the factoid that today is the 55th birthday of Dave Tobik, the reliever the Tigers sent to Texas for Grubb.
- This story is a week old but it’s worth a read nonetheless. Former Free Press baseball writer Joe Lapointe, now with The Times, checks in on the Tigers.
- Finally, I had absolutely no problem securing Tigers tickets on Saturday when single-game tickets were released for sale. Of course, my tickets are for the Tigers/Diamondbacks series May 16-18 at Chase Field.
If Detroiters were feeling the squeeze for tickets rest assured I was too, but a squeeze of a different variety. In a sign of how far things have come for Detroit’s baseball, I discovered that the Dbacks deemed the Tigers series here in Phoenix a “premium series” — i.e., at least $10 more per ticket than against, say, the Nationals. This was true, though, only for the Friday and Saturday night games. The Sunday matinee tickets were back to the usual economy price.
