As one of the daughters of Johnny B. I loved reading this article and thank you, Mike McClary, for writing it with such fondness and eloquence. Since I was born in 1983 I did not get to experience the great ride my dad did but reading these sorts of pieces gives me a glimpse of how much he was loved by the fans. Thank you for sharing!

M¢,

Per our phone conversation today, I hit up your site. I enjoyed the piece about Johnny B. I had forgotten 'Fuss was not on the '84 squad, then I remembered feeling awful when he was traded. Remember when we were at Tiger Stadium in '83, July, and the Tigers were playing the Yankees? Johnny had two yaks that night, I believe. Good memories. The Tigers were in first, one game ahead of Baltimore going into that night game.

I remember him fondly too. Can't think of another player whose stance had both feet on the back line of the batter's box. His career stats aren't outstanding, but he was simply uncanny at executing the hit-and-run. Kell and Kaline would rave from the booth at his unorthodox but excellent fundamentals.
