The Non Sequiturs: $2.50 Coffee Edition

CoffeeCupCeramic.jpgI thought Starbucks was going to focus on the $1 cup of coffee but instead they’re going for a 12-ounce cup of “fresh-pressed” coffee for a mere $2.50. While I ponder the impact this has on my coffee consumption, let’s drink up some non sequiturs.

  • I don’t think the opening sentence of John Lowe’s piece this morning is accurate:

Miguel Cabrera took away Brandon Inge’s third-base job.

He did? If anyone “took away” Inge’s job it was Dave Dombrowski when he traded for Cabrera. Oh, and it’s nice to know that Inge is not holding a grudge against his successor. After all, the only part Cabrera had in this was to have the gall to be a phenomenally better hitter than Inge.

This is all such 10th-grade stuff.

  • The Academy Awards will be more interesting this year given that I’ve actually seen a handful of the nominees. (Can’t get the song from the end of “Juno” out of my head.) Rob Neyer dives deep into the Best Picture nominees, if you’re so inclined.
  • Fungo contributor John Milton is spending the week swimming in sunshine near Ft. Myers, Fla., and took in some pitchers and catchers activity at the Twins’ camp yesterday. I asked John to make a point of booing — as my proxy — new Twins hack Craig Monroe; alas, no sighting occurred.

Finally, something for all Detroiters — current and former — courtesy of The Onion.
