The Monday Report: Presidents Day Edition

MondayXSmall.jpgSome thoughts on this Presidents Day…

  • Wasn’t it only a year ago that Jayson Stark wrote a treatise about the Tigers’ pitchers fielding practice (PFP) Spring Training? Nary a peep this year.
  • Speaking of old news, it was 50 years ago today that the Tigers acquired LHP Hank Aguirre and C Jim Hegan from the Indians for C J.W. Porter and LHP Hal Woodeschick
  • I suppose a strong first bullpen session of Spring Training is better than a meltdown, and so it is with Matt Mantei. He hopes to make the Tigers final roster in the bully. The guy used to throw bullets. Let’s hope he can keep it up; I certainly don’t want the Tigers turning to the likes of Bob Wickman.
  • Old news add one: Not sure why the Free Press is running Mitch Albom‘s old columns — if he’s not leaving, don’t tease us — but they are. Today, in what is probably his first column with the Freep, dated Aug. 5, 1985, they run a trip down memory lane re: Lou Whitaker‘s fine ’85 campaign.

Finally, let’s all raise a glass to our favorite chief executive, Tigers’ President Dave Dombrowski.
