Boys, where is this money coming from? Rivera's going to ask for at least $10 million a season isn't he?

And there's no guarantee Zumaya will ever relieve again. If the shoulder's not right he could well be headed to the rotation where there would be less stress on the arm.

If they're going out to get someone, my vote is for our old friend and Francisco Cordero. He's five years younger and presumably a bit more affordable.

Rivera would finally give the Tigers the rock solid closer that they need. For 1-2 seasons it might work out. He could mentor Zumaya into the closer role in 2009.

I can't see Rivera anywhere else but in pinstripes. Oddly enough, as much as I hate the Yankees, I don't have a problem with Rivera. Maybe it's because he's not as overexposed as the rest of them.

Asking 7 innings out of every starter without decent mid relief and a guarantee that they don't have a stable closer is asking way too much. Rivera would be not only a quality addition based on his fantastic career but would give the starting pitching some more insurance that they can leave the game and still get a W under the belt.

Ain't gonna happen.

All the more reason to get a sturdy starting pitcher for the rotation and tell the top four in the rotation that you need seven innings out of them night-in and night-out.
