Out of all the Tigers …

… to break Spring Training with the big club, who would’ve thought Jose Mesa would be the only one seeing post-season action in the Divisional Series?
And what a debut it was today: 1/3 of an inning, 1 H, 3 Rs, 2 BBs, and an ERA of 81.01. Yep, he threw 16 pitches, only six of which were strikes.
Those poor, poor Philly fans;-)
And how about ex-Tiger Tony Clark starting at first base for the D’Backs Wednesday night? It’s good to see he’s getting a taste of the high life.
Speaking of ex-Tiger first basemen, those Comeback Players of the Year names sounded familiar, didn’t they? Dmitri Young and Carlos Pena. Was Matt Stairs the AL runner-up?
And full credit to Bless You Boys’ and friend of the Fungo’s Ian Casselberry for this witty line: Your 2008 Comeback Player of the Year frontrunner has to be Sean Casey, no?
Is it just me or has Tigers’ first base quest become this millenium’s equivalent of the 1980s third base situation? Where have you gone Marty Castillo, Darnell Coles, Chris Brown, Howard Johnson, Stan Papi, et al?
