Loose Ends in a Tight Playoff Chase

In episode 32 of the podcast (posted just last night), I mentioned that I couldn’t find the number of leadoff homer runs hit by Curtis Granderson this year, but I uncovered in the Tigers’ media guide says he hit six last season.

The PR guys must have read my mind. Here’s an item from today’s Game Notes:

LEADING OFF WITH THE LONGBALL: Curtis Granderson belted his sixth lead-off home run of the season yesterday afternoon against the Minnesota Twins. The six lead-off home runs match his own single-season club record for lead-off home runs in a season, established in 2006. He ranks fourth in club history with 12 career lead-off home runs.

Indians manager Eric Wedge not exactly fanning the flames with his assessment of the three-game series:

“It’s a big series and everyone knows the importance of it,” Wedge said.
