John,

Good point on the youth thing and Bonderman's being hesitant to disclose his elbow problems. Clearly he wanted to show his toughness and battle through it.

Now, my rationale for dealing him: If the Tigers showed an organizational weakness last year it was at first base and outfield depth. I thought Bonderman's value was at its highest last winter and wouldn't have been surprised to see the Tigers parlay him and a prospect into a Mark Teixeira-level first baseman and a shortstop or outfielder. These are positions at which the Tigers have displayed virtually zero prospects. I guessed that the Tigers brass would look at the farm system and decide Bondo could go and be replaced by the talent in the bushes.

I'm wondering how long the "he's still young" argument will play when he's in his sixth major league season in 2008.

I hope I'm wrong and that he matures, develops a change up and is the staff ace Tigers fans expect him to be for the next decade.

There is no reason for the Tigers to trade Jeremy Bonderman, and any call to trade him over the offseason was foolish and short-sighted. He is YOUNG, and even though he is experienced, he cannot be counted on to disclose his first major injury. Who would they have traded him for? Another young pitcher with equal talent, yeah right. Another man in the lineup that we don't need? If you in fact did argue for a Bonderman trade, I cannot possibly imagine your justification.
