Free Press Boosts Tigers Coverage … Apparently

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Four months into the 2007 season it appears that the Free Press’s Michael Rosenberg has just started paying attention to the Detroit Tigers. I don’t know, but the headline above his column today sure makes me wonder: “Monroe on verge of losing starting spot”.
On the verge? Excuse me?
Two questions leap to mind:
- Did Craig Monroe have a starting job to lose?
- If so, didn’t he lose it long ago?
Rosenberg writes:
Monroe was responsible for the two moments I remember most from the 2006 regular season — a grand slam to beat the then-World Series champion White Sox in mid-July, when people were just starting to accept that the Tigers were for real, and a game-winning home run at Yankee Stadium in August.
Okay, how long do we have to hear about those two home runs? Seriously. As the kids like to say: That’s so last year.
If Tigers fans want to cling to the memories of 2006’s top performers, why not long for Jamie Walker?
Sigh.
