Tigers Flashback: April 7, 1984 Morris Throws a No-No
By Mike McClary in Fungoes | 0 comments
It was bright and cold in Detroit on April 7, 1984, just as it was at Chicago’s Comiskey Park. The Tigers took on the White Sox with a national audience thanks to being NBC’s Game of the Week. And it was a matchup of two big-name starters, the Tigers’ Jack Morris and the White Sox’ Floyd Bannister.
Morris was the story of the game and the story of baseball that day by throwing a no-hitter to defeat the White Sox 4-0 despite giving up six walks.
In the fourth, Morris walked the bases loaded but got out of it by getting Greg Luzinski to bounce into a double play and then striking out Ron Kittle.
I remember Dave Bergman making a tough defensive play at first when replaced Barbaro Garbey.
If Tigers fans needed another reason to feel good about the 1984 season, they got it on a bitter cold April afternoon.
